On the weekend of 27th September 2025, two dedicated members of the Edward Baden Group (UK Cube), Alex and John, joined over a thousand other hikers in the Macmillan South Coast Mighty Hike – the grand finale of this year’s series. Taking on the full marathon challenge, the pair trekked across one of the UK’s most scenic routes, raising funds and awareness for Macmillan Cancer Support, one of the UK’s leading cancer charities.
Hiking for Hope
The Mighty Hikes 2025 are a series of charity walks organised by Macmillan Cancer Support to raise essential funds for people living with cancer. This year’s South Coast event brought together 1,235 participants, each walking through breathtaking landscapes – from rolling hills to the iconic Seven Sisters cliffs – in support of a shared mission: helping Macmillan continue its incredible work. So far, the events have collectively raised an outstanding £1.07 million, contributing to Macmillan’s ongoing goal of ensuring that no one faces cancer alone.
A Mighty Challenge for a Mighty Cause
For Alex and John, the Mighty Hikes 2025 challenge was more than just a test of endurance – it was an opportunity to make a real impact. With over 3.5 million people now living with cancer in the UK, every step they took symbolised hope, resilience, and community spirit. The funds raised through the Mighty Hike could help support Macmillan’s Cancer Information and Support Line for six months, assisting over 18,000 people in need of guidance, financial advice, or emotional support.
Despite the demanding terrain, the sunshine and the camaraderie among hikers kept spirits high. Alex and John proudly sported their Cube beanies while exploring the challenging, yet stunning, South Downs Way, taking in spectacular coastal views as they trekked a marathon distance. Their journey along the South Coast stands as a reminder that when we walk together, we truly can go the extra mile for those who need it most.
