We’ve experienced some unsettled, windy weather with showers or even longer spells of rain for the first few weeks of 2023 and the picture remains wet and dreary for the rest of January. If you’re planning for a house moving in the near future, it would be best to keep your wellies and wet weather gear at hand.
Here are the top 5 tips for a smooth and mainly dry, hassle-free relocation
1. Hire professional relocation services early
Start early and research for a reliable removals company, especially if you have little or no experience of a house move, or time’s tight for overseeing the process. Look for these key points and policies of the moving company:
- What is the insurance policy if your furniture or belongings are damaged during the relocation?
- What are their methods for safely moving houses during inclement weather? Trusted relocation services will make sure everything arrives at the new location safe and sound, even in the dead of winter.
With over 25 years of unrivalled experience in the relocation industry, no matter the weather, Cube Relocations has relocated personal and commercial projects, from moving museums, art galleries, IT companies, to hotels, libraries and schools. 2. Plan toward the end of winter
If possible, schedule for the house moving to happen towards the end of the winter season. This reduces the chance of encountering the really inclement weather that can occur mid-winter. You can still receive good prices from the relocation services, but with less chance of getting caught out by the bad weather.
3. Dress for the weather
Don’t pack away all of your warm clothes in the boxes yet. Keep aside some gloves, beanies, jumpers and scarves to help keep you and your family warm. Choose comfy but weather-proof clothes that will let you move around easily during your relocation. In case the weather turns, waterproof jackets should also be set aside ideally along with anti-slip soles footwear.
4. Care for your pets and children
A move to a new environment can take a toll on your children and pets and moving day itself can be stressful – even without the addition of the cold to dampen the hardest of spirits. If possible, ask friends and relatives to keep them cosy and dry by looking after them while you do the move.
5. Salt your path
As road salt can lower the freezing temperature of rainfall or sleet, sprinkle some directly on paths and driveways that are susceptible to frost and ice when the temperatures drop. The salt will help melt snow, ice and prevent slips or falls during the move.
Moving home can be a daunting experience in itself, let alone when having to contend with a move during ice, snow, or freezing temperatures. We hope that our 5 helpful tips will help your move run smoothly whatever the weather.
